Very often we have clients that are looking for guaranteed amounts of traffic. There are many search engines that require you to pay for the top positions. These positions are usually labeled as "Sponsored Listings" on the search engines, and are the first 2 to 5 sites that are listed. They are also very often designated by colored (blue or green) boxes down the right side of a search engine. To get into these spots one must start a Pay-Per-Click campaign.

Pay-Per-Click is very much as it sounds. It means that you will pay a set amount of money every time some clicks on your link. Usually you "bid" for the spots or quantity of clicks, and can set a set limit on how much you will spend. You would choose a "word" or a "phrase" and bid against other people and sites for the top positions.

Often these types of campaigns can be done for very little money depending on the competition for a word or set of words. Words that get more traffic and are more commonly used will obviously cost more. So, it greatly depends on your field of business as to whether this will be expensive or cheap to accomplish.

The three main Pay-Per-Click networks are:

Google Ad Words (Google)

Yahoo Network (Yahoo, AltaVista, and InfoSpace)

Bing/MSN Network (MSN)
